You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Sunset Funeral Homes West gave my mother the farewell she deserved—elegant, reverent, and filled with love. From the moment she was transferred from Albuquerque to El Paso, everything was handled with nothing but dignity and respect. That alone gave our family immense peace in the midst of heartbreak. Chris was a guiding light throughout the entire process—compassionate, steady, and deeply attentive to every detail. Pastor Charles led a moving Christian service that spoke to the soul, offering both comfort and clarity in our grief. And the vocalist and pianist were nothing short of extraordinary. Their music elevated the entire service, filling the room with warmth, emotion, and grace. The chapel was arranged beautifully, with stunning floral displays and a peaceful, sacred atmosphere. Every part of the ceremony—from the timing to the tone—reflected my mother’s strength, beauty, and spirit. Thank you, Sunset West, for treating our family with such care and honoring my mother in a way we’ll never forget. You gave her the send-off she deserved, and for that, we are forever grateful.”

“So happy we moved from Perches to Sunset With 5 sisters we were going to use Perches to handle my mom's funeral arrangements. She died 12/30 and we couldn't get an appointment with them until the following week, after the holidays, even though they had already transported her. I called Sunset Funeral Home the evening of December 30 and Chris set up an appointment for us girls on 12/31. We met with Stephanie who was extremely helpful and caring and gave of us plenty of time to make decisions. We left Sunset having several items pending on our part and in our time of sorrow and mourning, would have that "oh my gosh" feeling; "Stephanie, I forgot" panic that we lost track of time. It was handled perfectly by Stephanie. Even the photo for the prayer cards had a shadow on it and she had office staff work to see if they could fix it up. We were so happy with the finished photo. I personally dealt with Stephanie for us girls and felt that I had her sole and undivided attention even though I knew how busy she really was. She's amazing. The day after services, Elizabeth reached out just to let us know they (Sunset staff) were thinking of us and that if there was anything we needed, to please let them know. This was very heartfelt. I don't know why we considered anywhere other than Sunset Funeral Home being that we went through them with my dad prior to. Thank you to all ❤️ Ramona Rivera”

“The people who work here are very professional, kind and considerate. From the moment that we walked through the door to make the funeral arrangements, to helping us make the arrangements for the viewing, rosary and even our church services, Sunset went above and beyond for me and my family. Last minute changes to our obituary announcement was handled with ease. The streaming service went on flawlessly and they even recorded the streaming for us so that we could keep the recording. Most of us have never planned a funeral nor do we know the protocol for Catholic funeral mass services. From processional to preparing us for the readings, the staff here took us aside and explained to us how to do this part of the arrangements. After the services they delivered all of the flowers to our home. From sending us texts to see how we were holding up to being so respectful with my father’s belongings after the funeral, I cannot say enough about this funeral home. A few months later we had another death in the family. The funeral was pre arranged at another funeral home and the treatment and service was like night and day. The rosary had been double booked and we ended up without an officiant. The streaming had no sound and since they weren’t paying attention we didn’t get sound until 30 min into the rosary. They didn't help us with the church service. We had to pick up and take our arrangements to the church and to home. The people were not very professional at all. Once you have had the best experience it’s easy to see the difference. We will remain loyal to this funeral home. Thank you so much Sunset Funeral Home!”
