You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We had my mom’s service at Baue. One star is generous! Her first name was Mary Rita. I explained this at the planning meeting with the funeral director so she did not think Rita was her middle name. My mom has never gone by just Mary. In the obit, sign outside the room of her service & on the remains I kept all had her name wrong. I brought this to their attention & obit was corrected. My mom did not like flowers & I asked to include that in her obit, but instead, they included a link to send flowers. They allowed me to see her prior to cremation. I asked them not to apply makeup because she never wore makeup. She had on rouge & dark lipstick. The worst part is they put her in what appeared to be a push up bra. They gave her cone shaped breasts very high on her chest. What 81 year old looks like that? Why would they do something like that? Don’t trust your loved one’s care with a facility that can’t get their name right! Do better Baue!”

“We had my mom's Visitation here and then she was taken to the cemetery My mother had prepaid for everything a long time ago when she passed away on July 4TH 2024 we had moved to Southern Alabama so we couldn't afford to transfer her Body so we paid to have her cremated here in southern alabama and then we can Transfer her Ashes to Missouri in our car after I got up to Baue they informed us that since she has paid for her body to be in a casket. Then the prepayment was not good.We had to pay the price of today , which it cost us $3,000.00 extra so I would not let this place do anything because they are thieves at this company..”
