You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the compassion, kindness, and genuine care shown by Nate Calvert Funeral Director and Embalmer during one of the hardest times of my life. He guided our family through every step of planning my beloved son’s viewing and Celebration of Life with such empathy and understanding. His warmth and professionalism brought comfort when we needed it most. He listened, cared, and made sure every detail was handled with love and respect. It was clear he truly cared—not just about his work, but about our family and honoring my son’s memory in the most beautiful way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping us through this unimaginable time with grace, patience, and compassion. You will never know how much that meant to us. With heartfelt gratitude, Lisa Quinlivan and Family”

“During one of the worst times in my sister‘s life, losing her husband of 40 years, Allie was the most warm, caring, and compassionate person I’ve ever met. She provided us with everything we needed to get through this challenging time. She was thorough and informative, but most of all, she provided a level of comfort to us, ensuring that everything was going to be taken care of, and that everything was going to be all right. She made herself available to us 24/7 with any questions thoughts or concerns that we had. She even made personal calls to my sister at home to check in on her during this devastating loss in her life. Her comforting hugs, prayers and scriptures that she shared with us, reassured both my sister and myself that Hennessey Valley Funeral Home was the place to bring our dearly beloved for his smooth transition home. Thank you Allie for your undeniable commitment to an obvious passion you have deep within your heart. Many blessings. Jill Kjose.”

“My experience started with a simple phone call during a very difficult time in my life. I lost my husband of 39 years to cancer. He was my partner, my love, and my life. I had no experience with such a crushing and devastating loss. While he was in hospice care, I made several calls to different funeral homes and cremation facilities. I needed information about what to do, costs, and how to proceed. Two of those calls were to Hennessey Funeral Home north and valley. My stress and worry were comforted the minute I heard Allie Greens voice at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Allie immediately put me at ease. She was very patient, respectful, empathetic, and a complete blessing! She is a beautiful sole. She made a very difficult time and process, bearable. She graciously answered all of my questions and concerns with no pressure or concern for money or paperwork. Upon my husband's passing she gently walked me through the process with genuine care and concern. She again, answered all of my questions and thoughtfully listened to my personal history and reasoning for a scatter urn. She helped me make a decision on a scatter urn and even a pocket urn. She even offered to special order a urn based on our favorite pass time that she heard me speak about. I don't know if I could have gotten through this without her help and compassion. She even provided me with social security information and a business and financial checklist of things I would need to take care in the days ahead. Allie Green is a godsend. She is an absolute professional that genuinly cares about her job and her consumer. Thank you Allie Green and Hennessey Valley Funeral Home for helping me through this journey.”
