You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Clint: On behalf of the Pethick family, we cannot thank you and your staff enough for the professionalism and care you showed our family when my father passed. During such a difficult time, you were there to comfort us and care for us and educate us on all we needed to know. Your services were timely, well-explained, and reasonably priced, and the compassion you and your team showed our family will never be forgotten. Dealing with the death of a loved one is one of the hardest things we encounter in life, and at times like these, we need true professionals to care for our needs. It is without hesitation that I recommend Clint Jackson and Jackson Memorial Funeral Home to our community.”

“In a time of grief, I have never heard of a funeral home that charges to personally see their loved one for the last time before cremation. Immediate family has always been allowed that right. Embalming should has been charged IF other family members would like to visit the decedent. To tell an immediate family member it's an extra 400 to prepare the body for her to view 1 last time ,is so disgusting to me especially when there were no diseases to the body that couos be harmful to the living. Personally my family has always used Hatchers, but my family members mother wanted Napier . With everything she had on her with her mother passing ,this should not have been one of those. They also told her they would not cremate her mother until all the money was paid. That was taken care of last Friday as the mother had no policies in place. Napier cremated her Friday and failed to tell her ,calling today stating iys against the law to hold remains, but yet her her body over a month before cremation. As for my side of the family I will definitely not ever use Napier and continue to go to Hatchers , where they treat each family with care, dignity, sympathy, and empathy.”

“10 out of 10 would not recommend using this company. At my grandma's request she wanted us use Napiers. My Grandma had no policy to help with any cost so my family had to pay out of pocket for services. Was told for other family members to view her it would cost $400 extra before she was cremated. They let my Grandma sit for a month before they would cremated because the owner wanted all money up front before providing this service. Finley she was cremated Friday and my family was told that we had to pick her remains up right away because it was illegal to hold someones remains. This is absolutely disgusting owner cared more about lining his pockets with money then helping me and family during our time of grief. I do not recommend anyone to this place!”
