You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Elyria Lifecare was an absolutely amazing experience from the amazing staff they go above and beyond. My brother Gerard a.k.a. Jerry came back to life after staying at the skilled nursing and rehabilitation center of life care. He was so weak when he went in after a hospital stay he received excellent care through occupational therapy and physical therapy. Thank you so much for all your exceptional service and supportive staff. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Maureen Vinicky and family.💕”

“My multi-week rehabilitative stay at Life Care Center of Elyria was an outstanding experience. The programs, services, staff and facilities were excellent. I made clear to the staff up front my rehabilitative needs following a lengthy inpatient hospital stay. By the end of my time at LCCE the staff had met (or exceeded) the goals we had set for me regarding mobility and overall leg and core strength. The PT/OT staffs knew what was needed and saw that I got it, and their support and encouragement during rehab exercises were a factor in our eventual success. All this was accomplished in facilities that were bright, cheery and absolutely spotless! Housekeeping is certainly a top priority at LCCE! In summary, a tough time in my recuperation from a serious illness was made all the easier, all the better, by the folks at Life Care of Elyria. I would not hesitate to return if necessary, nor would I hesitate to recommend it to a family member or friend. It is a class facility staffed by class professionals.”

“Recommended to us with great reviews. Sad to say, we can only go by what we experienced. It felt like when a request was made, common replies were, "I'll look into it", "Let me check", "I'll let someone know", then that person would never come back. We have a number of family members that have jobs that work with the public (Esp. the medical field), I was amazed at the lack of communication from staff towards us. The kicker was all we wanted was a recliner for our mother to sit in and 24hours had passed and nothing. The reasoning we got from some was silly. It was as if the request kept getting put off to someone else. When at the hospital, the same request was "let me see what I can find" and within 10 minutes, taken care of. Very puzzling process with poor communication. I am sure there are many good experiences there, ours just happened not to be one. A reminder to anyone who works with elderly patients. That person is usually a parent, grandparent, great grandparent, sibling or spouse. Treat them as if they were related to you.”
