Sacramento Historic City Cemetery

“Like history and going to places that you can see first hand? This Historic Cemetery has it. As you walk inside this place it does encourage any donations as you enter but don't have to if prefer to keep help with keeping up the grounds. There are headstones that date back to dates afew of us weren't born yet, its amazing to see the beautiful artwork on alot of this old fashion headstones. There are tours given on the website at a reasonable price and tells of some famous history tales on headstones graves here. Or walk along with company or yourself thru older stone walkways but walk carefully and watch your steps since along the walkways there are many cracks. This Cemetery is amazing to see and its huge so walking thru can take time if your willing to view it all. Its a peaceful place with its history inside that if your quiet maybe hear those gone could whisper sonething in your ear since its been known to be Haunted. But not many believe in this and its fine cause just walking thru this Cemetery makes you feel as if you walking in thru time among those who walked the same path your on lobg ago. Do show respect and keep voice volume low and no loitering. Let's keep this wonderful place well care for so next generations can continue to come and show respect to those long gone but not forgotten.”

“We absolutely love this cemetery. It is so peaceful and interesting. Tons of Sacramento history and you can see the grave of Alexander Hamilton’s youngest son, William Stephen Hamilton. If you are looking for his grave, you need to walk a good way straight back from the main gates. Go to the corner of cemetery roads Junction Avenue and Laburnum Avenue. There is a large eucalyptus tree, the grave of William Hamilton is a pointed topped pillar diagonally behind that tree.”

“The Sacramento area has many interesting historical places to visit. I've started to visit all the places I have on my list. After the old Sacramento district and the State Capitol, this is the third place on my list. I personally love old historical cemeteries. Whether they are pioneer or military cemeteries. To walk around and find and read the headstones of people and to ask what is your story? From Arlington to Gettysburg and the punch bowl and many others if you are interested in monuments like this, then you must visit. It is a beautiful well kept cemetery. Many pioneers,, politicians and prominent families from the history of California.”
