You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“What an touching experience it was to have such a compassionate funeral home work with us during the loss of our son. Leslie Scott went above and beyond for us; her level of professionalism was outstanding. She was very understanding to everything we were hoping our service for Brady would be, and did a fantastic job of arranging everything so it went smoothly. Thank you so much, Leslie, for all that you did for our family, and to Bethany Funeral Home for the personal and loving care of Brady. We can't thank you enough! Ron and Cheri Taylor”

“The funeral home director was very organized and helpful to my family. He was open to my church pastor being the service leader and to my church choir providing two songs—one at the beginning and a song at the end, all creating a lovely remembrance for my husband.”

“I urge Bethany Funeral Home to read this review and understand that changes need to be made. I recommend giving your staff further training on dealing with individuals in grief. I also recommend hiring more staff because your employees are very obviously overwhelmed. Judson was our main point of contact for our recent funeral. He rushed every meeting, spoke condescendingly to my entire family, was disorganized, forgot to provide pallbearers, canceled a family member’s gift of flowers, and our casket spray never showed up. We had to rewrite the obituary because they got the date of death wrong, and didn’t proofread what their AI software wrote before publishing. Also, the hearse driver lost our lead car because he was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. Numerous family members commented on the rudeness of Bethany’s staff during the wake. My poor grandmother should not have had to deal with the all the unprofessionalism. If she hadn’t prepaid, we would not have used their services. If you are considering using this funeral home, I suggest you to find an alternative.”
