You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This hospital does not deserve one star. I arrived at the Emergency Room by ambulance with severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, and a broken sternum. After triage, I was left in a hallway outside the ER in extreme pain and struggling to breathe. While still in the hallway, I was taken for a chest X-ray and then returned to the hallway. Blood was drawn while I was sitting there. The X-ray technicians were kind and professional, but no patient in respiratory distress should be treated in a hallway. After that I waited over an hour. I went to the admissions desk twice to report that my pain was worsening and my breathing was getting harder. I was told both times that a nurse would be notified. No one came. Eventually, I was told to knock on Door #2. When the nurse opened the door, I again explained that I was in severe pain, having trouble breathing & NEEDED HELP. By this point I was bent over and crying. She said they were preparing a bed and literally SLAMMED the door in my face. I waited another 30 minutes. On the way to my room, I saw multiple empty beds in the ER. Leaving a patient who arrives by ambulance with chest pain and breathing difficulty sitting unattended in a hallway for well over an hour is unacceptable. The lack of urgency and compassion was alarming. Once I was finally taken back, the nurses and CT technician were professional and kind. My concern is specifically with how I was handled upon arrival. No one should experience this level of disregard and neglect in an emergency room.”

“We went in on a routine MRI and even though my daughter is non-verbal Autistic and needed help throughout the process she was treated with respect and dignity. I was very impressed when we were even asked if we would like prayer before they took her back. It was a heart touching moment. On the way there we enjoyed an amazing sunrise! God is Good! Thank you all for making the visit enjoyable. (never thought I'd say that for a hospital visit. lol) God Bless You all”

“Thank you so much Review for South Georgia Medical Center - Emergency Room Department I cannot say enough good things about the emergency room staff at Georgia Medical Center. On January 15th, we brought my dad, Willie Harold McLeod, in after calling paramedics because he was in severe pain. My dad had Alzheimer’s, a bad UTI, and kidney failure, and we had been desperately trying to get help from a local hospice company Pruitt that ignored our phone calls for two nights in a row and left us on hold. From the moment we arrived at the ER, everything changed. The emergency room doctor (I wish I could remember his name to thank him personally) showed us incredible compassion and treated my dad like a human being. He didn’t rush us through - instead, he kept dad for thorough testing and made sure he was admitted to the 5th floor. One nurse even pretended to take a payment from me because dad believed he was in jail for $40 bill he thought he owed something so simple put his confused mind at rest The care continued on the 5th floor, where the staff treated my dad with such kindness and respect. The South Georgia Hospice team was absolutely amazing. Together, all of these dedicated professionals made sure my dad’s last few days on earth were pain-free and filled with dignity i Dad passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 18th at 5:53 AM. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing he was surrounded by such compassionate care. This experience completely restored my faith in the medical field after our negative experience with Pruitt Hospice To everyone at South Georgia Medical Center who cared for my dad and our family during this difficult time - thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You made an unbearable situation more bearable, and we will never forget your kindness. — Scarlet Treloar”
