You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“As a pastor, having officiated multiple services, I am always encouraged when Strickland Funeral Home - Wendell is involved! I have know Sean Bannon for a quarter century, and he is one of the most compassionate, caring and committed individuals that I know! His willingness to comfort families, guide and help them, helping them to navigate the challenges that the time of loss brings, is always his top priority! Sean's staff is equally committed to serve the needs of every family and are equally professional and compassionate. It is unfortunate that the family dynamic can, often times, create difficulties when trying to serve families. When families have relationship struggles, and they bring that family animosity into the funeral experience, it makes it difficult for the funeral staff to please everyone. It is hard for me to believe that Sean or any of his staff would be rude or disrespectful! Now, I have witnessed, and experienced, family members who were rude, with unreasonable expectations, and could not be pleased, period! The fact of the matter is that when I officiate services out of the local area, I recognize just how fortunate that we are to have funeral homes, like Strickland Funeral Home, to care for the final needs of our loved ones! Thank you Sean for your "Servant's Heart!"”

“I was highly disappointed in the treatment I received by staff here during the loss of my spouse. I was totally humiliated by the lack of assistance I received and the poor communication from them. All communication was to his daughter, not his wife. During the line up for the funeral, the ex wife was lined up ahead of the current wife. The daughter was treated like royalty due to the fact she was the beneficiary on the life insurance policy. I was left out of all decisions and knew nothing of decisions that were made all because I wasn't swimming in dollar signs. I was given none of the living plants from my husband's funeral. The guy said we could divide them up but they saw to it that his daughter got them all. Any time the current spouse is treated like the outcast family member by the funeral home, it's a sad day. Never in good faith, could I recommend this funeral home to anyone needing to be treated respectfully at the time of loss. This review is totally based on my personal experience with Strickland's in Wendell. Nothing could ever replace my husband but a little respect from the staff here would have meant a lot.”
