You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Cotton Funeral Home provided excellent service during a very difficult time for our family. The staff was professional, caring, and respectful from start to finish. A special thank-you to Susan for her kindness and patience, and to the limousine chauffeur for his courtesy. Everything was handled with dignity and compassion. We truly appreciate their support and highly recommend them.”

“My family used Cotton funeral home over two decades ago and when we recently faced another loss, we knew where to turn. While there are many funeral homes in the area, Cotton’s service and compassion set them apart then and now. From the very beginning, Noah, who came for our loved one, showed great professionalism and compassion, explaining step by step what would take place and making sure we were prepared. Directors Alex and Jason were thorough in walking us through the planning process and even followed up with calls that made us feel supported and cared for. Anthony, the makeup artist, did a remarkable job. Our Mother looked so natural and at peace, a memory we will always cherish. Mr. Macon’s presence during the service and his stories of the past and the future were a beacon of light. He even accompanied us to the final resting place and showed extreme care and concern for us all. The entire team was personable, professional and truly attentive. Cotton Funeral home gave us not just a service but an experience filled with grace and dignity. We whole heartedly recommend them to every family seeking compassionate care. Kudos to you ALL!”

“Do NOT use this funeral home if you do want peace during your time of mourning. I was not happy with the services for my mother or uncle that were done here. If my cousin hadn’t jumped in and made these arrangements without consulting me when my mother passed, I would have used Woody’s. I just left a service for one of my mother’s oldest and dearest friends. Why did the funeral director get up and say “this is a dry service…” and then go in to ask who had life insurance and who made pre-arrangements for themselves or their loved ones. The audacity! My mom would often say people have more nerve than sense and this gentleman definitely had more nerve… So triggering and ultimately disrespectful to the grieving family! Shame on you!”
