You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Dealing with DeWitt-Martinez has been Excellent now for myself and for my family in previous years. The people there are intelligent, effective, very easy to deal with and know their business very, very well. They are well capable of guiding you through a trying time with decency, care and confidentiality. I fully and without reservation recommend doing business with both DeWitt-Martinez and Martinez-Morse. Our family has been and will continue.”

“A lose of anyone is one of the hardest things we are required to endure, no matter age, or circumstances. This was the first time my husband and I were responsible for making funeral arrangements. Although we started the arrangements early it wasn't any easier when the final arrangements had to be made. Chris Martinez met with us and told us step for step what needed to be done. He didn't leave anything out. Naturally, we did not realize this until the wake and funeral were over and everything fell into place. He and his staff were most accommodating, sincere, considerate and gentle before, during and after. Everything from the 1800's converted colonial and original funeral parlor to the area, the original wood features, the single showing, made it most comfortable and hospital. Exactly as my mother in law wanted. I received a number of calls that weekend to tell me that the entire funeral was "a model funeral" . I thank Chris and the Dewitt-Martinez family for helping my mother-in-law's final wishes a huge success.”

“DeWitt-Martinez Funeral and Cremation Services tended to my mother when she passed. My mother had textbook examples of elder abuse. She was denied contact with family and friends. Her captor was her next of kin, that intentionally withheld news of her passing from all who loved her. When I learned of her death through legal channels, I reached out to this funeral home to find out if and where she was buried. They refused to provide any information because the "responsible party" said not to give me any information. The man I spoke with used vague non-quantitative descriptors and went so far as to say it was against the law to provide information if the "responsible party" said no. He was unable to specify what part of the civil code would be violated. Two elder law attorneys are also unfamiliar with this law. The funeral home was provided with legal documentatiom indicating I was Executor of my mom's estate and still refused to provide any information because the "responsible party" said not to provide me any information. I find their behavior and practices to me, my mom, and our family unconscionable. Yes, the "responsible party" can be a challenging individual but they have chosen to compromise their ethics to avoid a tongue lashing from an individual. My probate attorney said he had NEVER seen a funeral home fail to cooperate with the family, especially when legal documentaion was provided. Aside from the "responsible party", DeWitt-Martinez has traumatized my family and continues to do so. All conversations were recorded on dashcam so there is a record of what Stacey and Christopher said. They were pleasant as they denied me the information to which I was legally entitled. Just disgusting, unethical behavior. Luckily, I have no need to have dealings with this facility again. I pray for anyone else that uses them.”
