You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My son passed away in 2013. I finally decided to get a headstone, because we could finally afford it. I went in May 2025 and spoke with Mike. It took a few months to finally get some information. Headstone wasn’t what we expected. You couldn’t see the name or what was written it wasn't legible. You could see it only when the sun was hitting the headstone directly. We reach out to Mike, but he didn’t return my calls or answered my texts. Mary took over but it was the same thing with her. She told me couple times she would call me and she never did. I reached out to my credit card and let them know the situación. They were able to do a refund. I was sad about it because it took me 12 years to finally get my son’s headstone and it wasn’t what I expected. Came to see my son’s grave, his headstone wasn’t there anymore. Not even a phone call to see how they can make it better. I guess you have to have a recently deceased family member so they can treat you decently.”

“On behalf of my husband Gabriel Guerra and I ,we would love to thank Mission Funeral Chapels Cemeteries & Creamatories. The staff went above & beyond for us. It was a pleasure to work with John Trevino. John was our funeral director. He was so very patient, kind, detailed oriented & above all very empathetic. Our son was taken from us very unexpectedly & tragically. We were told at first we would not be able to have an open casket for our son. But John and his staff were able to make that possible for us after all. Matthew's father was able to hold and kiss Matthew goodbye as he had wished for. Our daughter-in-law Savannah also passed away alongside our son, with our grandson still in her womb. John also worked very hard and diligently to make it possible for our grandson to lay next to our son for his viewing. That is something we will be forever grateful for. As at least we got to hold our grandson once in this lifetime. We Will cherish that moment forever. At the time John was also handling about 11 other funerals. But he was always available to answer our calls and help us guide us through this difficult process. We cannot thank Mission Funeral Park Homes enough for everything that they have done for our family.”

“Losing a loved one is never easy, but having Ana as our funeral director made all the difference. She was truly heaven-sent so caring, compassionate, and attentive to every detail. She made sure all of our needs were met, and her gentle presence brought comfort in the middle of our grief. Even in such a painful time, Ana helped everything run so smoothly that we were able to focus on honoring and saying goodbye to our loved one instead of stressing over arrangements. I will never forget how patient, kind, and understanding she was through it all. Thank you, Ana, from the bottom of our hearts, for your care and compassion. You made one of the hardest experiences a little easier to bear.”
