You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Royal funeral home provided our family with so much love and support during our time of bereavement. Our family cannot say enough about the extraordinary care and professionalism shown by this funeral home. From the very first phone call, the staff was patient, compassionate, and attentive to every detail. They cared for our aunt with dignity and respect, and the presentation was absolutely beautiful! It brought peace to our entire family. They guided us through each step with clarity and warmth, making a very difficult time feel manageable. The atmosphere, service, and personal touches were far beyond what we expected. We are deeply grateful for the way they honored our loved one and supported us through this journey. Huge huge shout outs to Mrs. Jackie and Kennedy. Words cannot express our gratitude to you both. On behalf of the Wise family! Thank you Thank you Thank you! We highly recommend them to any family seeking a funeral home that truly goes above and beyond.”

“Ms.Jackie Baker was an absolute pillar of strength for myself and my family as we were going through this entire process of losing our Mother. Her heartfelt prayers, words of encouragement of comfort, and calls lifted us. Whenever there were issues, she made it right with a smile and concern. Her patience and attention she gave did not go unnoticed. At the cemetery things became “real” to me. I had a complete melt down, and Ms. Baker held on to me so tightly. She walked me to the car, holding my hand. I can still hear her words even right now as my eyes are filling with tears” You got this. Breathe! You got this. Breathe.” This is more than a”career” to her. I know in my heart that she really cares for people. This is who she is, and I felt that this entire time. Thank you Ms. Baker for being exactly who you are. Your support, your shoulder, and your sincerity I will always remember. The Family of Ms.Barbara Jean Grimes Jackson.”

“Unfortunately, my experience with this funeral home during the loss of my father was deeply disappointing. At one of the most vulnerable moments of my life, I was met with a complete lack of empathy and compassion. The process felt cold and transactional, as though I was just another number rather than a grieving daughter. I was assisted by Karen, whose demeanor was extremely rude and dismissive. She did not take the time to explain the funeral arrangements or walk me through the process as someone experiencing this for the first time. Instead, she briefly mentioned available packages without offering clear options, pricing details, or explanations. Important questions I asked were either ignored or answered only when she chose to respond, often with an unkind tone. Planning a funeral should be handled with patience, sensitivity, and respect. Sadly, none of that was reflected in my experience here. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides better training on compassion and communication for families during such difficult times”
