You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I lost my mother unexpectedly in early February, two days after celebrating her for her 75th birthday. In shock, I had to make a quick choice on where to have her sent, with no background on funeral homes in the Valley. On the list I was provided I looked at the Chandler options as they were close to me and I knew I could handle her affairs that much faster (she was living in Goodyear.) The reviews left for Legacy were what sealed my decision and I have no regrets. Vanessa and the Legacy team were wonderful; compassionate and warm, with a thorough first meeting that allowed for my tears as well as personality. We stayed in close communication for all steps of my mom’s preparation and I was always met with confident and well researched answers. Prior to our first meeting, my fiancee and I stopped by the Chandler location to see how we would be received. We found ourselves comforted to see that only appointments and not walk ins were taken at a peaceful and secure non-descript building just off of Arizona Ave. We were comforted by this knowing that the location felt safe, clean, quiet and did not allow for a “showroom floor” feel. Also, we never felt pressured to purchase anything we did not want or need (no pressure or even low pressure upselling,) nor did we feel as though my vulnerable position was being taken advantage of in any way to get me to “buy.” My family and I were so grateful for such a positive experience at what has been a shattering time. We now consider Legacy to be our family funeral home when our time comes again.”

“I've taken two of my loved ones to Legacy Funeral Home. I've had a good, professional personal help us in the process. They were kind, thoughtful, and explained everything so well. I felt they were conscious about everything they did and took into consideration the feelings of the family and their needs. Their followup is wonderful and to see if there is anything else they can do to help. I highly recommend them.”

“I had an exceptional experience with Legacy Funeral Home during one of the hardest moments of my life. They were incredibly empathetic, professional, and consistently kept me updated every step of the way. Even while handling everything from out of state, they were completely on top of it, making the process as smooth and manageable as possible given the circumstances of losing a loved one. Their care and communication brought real comfort during a painful time. I would highly recommend them.”
