You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“9:50 * Harris Funeral Home Legacy Center Harris funeral home over billed us approximately $1,000. Our family requested in writing and paid for my Dad's viewing where he was to be in a casket and groomed. My dad was placed on a table with wheels and a covering. He had food in his beard. Of course we took pictures and presented this to the owner. We were sent a revised invoice but no refund. Several times our family called and emailed Harris funeral home requesting the credit refund. Harris funeral home told us they’re working with their finance department or they were in the middle of a service and will call us back. As of today we haven’t received a refund for their over billing of a casket and grooming we never received. FYI we wanted to share our story to help other families as the lost of a love one is already heartbreaking. We put our trust into Harris funeral service and feel we were played at our families most vulnerable time.”

“My family has dealt with Harris Funeral home for years. The service is impeccable. Always professional always courteous. Sheila is so wonderful. I met her at 17 when my granny passed and she made everything so easy for us, she allowed me to assist in the makeup and care of my granny❤️. Today at 35 she is still amazingly wonderful and she remembered me from all of these years. Thought we’ve had death occur in between my mom and aunt dealt with all the arrangements and communication but now it is my turn because everyone is gone 😢. These last few days are rough especially losing a mom but she has made everything easy. I thank her for her kind heart words and understanding as well as help during this difficult timing.”

“There are angels here on earth and Shelia Wells of Harris Legacy is one of them. Dealing with the grief of a loved one while making funeral arrangements is an overwhelming experience. Shelia made us feel cared for with her patient and kind demeanor. Her level of experience and attention to detail will make it easy for my family to recommend her to all. Making funeral arrangements is not something I look forward to having to do in the future but I know when that time comes Shelia and Harris Legacy will be there to help us through. Thank you ❤️”
