You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Thornridge Funeral Home of Orland Park attended to Mom's funeral with the utmost compassion, respect, and kindness. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions that were in place, the service was held in one day. Lynn and her staff handled everything from the preparation, visitation, church service, and to the final resting place, seamlessly transitioning from one to the next. Lynn was very helpful providing support and comfort to our family during this difficult time and through the entire process. Words cannot express our gratitude for the attention and care we received from her and her staff. In addition, the funeral home is well-maintained and welcoming, providing a warm and comforting feeling, as well as, ample parking for the guests. I highly recommend this wonderful family owned business to anyone and know firsthand that their experience will be a lovely, peaceful, and memorable memorial service for their loved one. Thank you Lynn and Thornridge Funeral Home of Orland Park”

“My father and brothers held our grandpa's services at Thornridge Funeral Home in Orland about 6 years ago. When our mom recently passed away this is the first and only place my dad wanted to go for services. We are forever grateful we did because Lynn and the entire staff, including Jim, made a very difficult and sad time much easier. Do not hestitate to contact Lynn. You will be in wonderful hands! She is so compassionate and kind and will walk you through everything and support your family along the way.”

“From start to finish, Lynn was amazing to work with. After reaching out to many local funeral homes for pricing on a small cremation memorial service, my family chose Thornridge Funeral Home. Lynn emailed our family with a link to upload photos for a slide show. She let me upload photos late into the night before the service so that I could get as many pictures of my Grandfather in as possible. The slideshow was beautiful and so well put together. When we asked afterward for a copy, she just gave us the usb drive without question so that we could all have the slideshow. When you walk through the doors, they take you in like you are a part of their family. Lynn was constantly one step ahead of us with helping set up and organize for the service. We made a ton of picture boards, and they brought over more stands to display them all so perfectly. There were hand sanitizers, kleenex, and hard candies all around the lobby and in the chapel. The one thing our family all noticed was that there was not a distinct "smell" like a typical funeral home has. I think this really helped with the homey feeling. My grandpa spent his older days living in North Carolina, and we said it felt like we were transported to his home. The kitchen/dining area was a large enough space for our one family, but I'm not too sure how well it would have worked had there been another service that evening. The funeral home supplied coffee and cookies, which were a bit lacking, to be honest. The coffee was more like hot water with a drop of coffee, and the cookies were pretty boring. I feel like a nice, large, cookie platter from a grocery store would look better coming from the home. We luckily brought in a ton of food and water bottles for guests to help themselves with. We are all forever grateful for Lynn and her family for making such a difficult time so easy to maneuver. Our family never felt rushed when making decisions or cleaning up after the service. Lynn was right there with us emptying the flower vases and finding boxes to transport everything home. They had little tote bags to put all of our leftover service cards and guest book into to take home. It was the most beautiful evening to remember my grandfather with, and it was all possible thanks to the Thornridge Funeral Home.”
