You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My family felt extremely disrespected by the unprofessionalism exhibited by the owner when we were given my father in law's ashes. Cason offers a service in which they set aside small amount of ashes to be placed in jewelry for you. My family requested this. When it came time to receive the ashes we noticed that none had been placed in any kind of small container in order to make jewelry. When this was brought up to the owner, he had a strange attitude about it. He then went into the back with the ashes and after what seemed like an inordinate amount of time, he returned and gave us the ashes back. We returned home to discover that he placed HALF of the ashes in a gallon sizes freezer bag. The indignity of this is repulsive. I hope he is ashamed of himself. I know he did this on purpose. I think he was butthurt that he forgot to set any ahses aside and that we asked him to do so after he forgot. If my family had it to do over again we would NOT choose Cason Funeral Service. Do your loved one a favor and do not give this vile man your business. Edit: Todd is full of excuses and refuses to take any accountability for his poor customer service. Keep in mind this man puts human remains in gallon freezer bags. In his response to this review he said that he hopes I take this down because this business is how he feeds his family. However he treated my family's remains like left over pizza. Second edit: Although Todd begins his first response with saying sorry, he provided no real apology by saying that he's sorry that we're going through a difficult time. He certainly didn't apologize for his actions, which are by far the most egregious offence. His last paragraph is his response to my first edit. His indignant tone in his response reflects his attitude that he had with my mother in law. He is disrespectful and transactional when he provides his customer service and defensive and argumentative when receiving valid criticism. Do yourself a favor and don't trust your loved ones with this man. Third edit: Todd is more concerned with talking about his camera footage that taking accountability or apologizing for putting human remains in a freezer bag. Camera footage also won't show his poor attitude a lack of respect that he had for my mother in law. Although, you will be able to detect his lack of compassion in his responses. Fourth edit: Todd, you truly are a piece of work. Interrogating my mother in law over the phone about who I am and focusing on the quality of a FREEZER BAG is DISGUSTING. You are truly trying to subvert the concern, or your lack there of, of your customers feeling is the entire point. Instead of simply apologizing you're doing everything you can think of to save face. My family feels like you intentionally put entirely too much of my father in law in a freezer bag because you were frustrated that they asked you for a small amount set aside. You could have had this removed by admitting that what you did distressed my family. Instead you chose to argue. Shame on you.”

“Mr. Cason was very compassionate during this very difficult time in our family. He answered all of our questions and provided information that we where unaware of asking. We were happy with every interaction with him and his employees. I will definitely recommend to others when they have to go through preparing for a loved one.”
