You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Our family’s experience with Mr. Joseph at this funeral home was extremely disappointing and hurtful during an already difficult time. He came across as very insensitive to the situation, especially regarding something as personal and emotional as the dressing of our deceased father. When we tried to express our concerns, he was not willing to listen and repeatedly cut us off. His responses were short, dismissive, and lacked the compassion and patience that should be expected from someone working in this line of service. During a moment where empathy and understanding are needed most, we unfortunately received neither.”

“I used them from a recommendation for my mother. They were courteous & helpful but the day we arrived to see her after they prepped her - we were in total shock at her appearance. Granted she was an older woman but they’d totally transformed her face by inserting this awful mouth piece- making the entire space between her nose and her top lip protrude unnaturally. It was horrible! Making matters worse was having her lying in this room, (really a janitorial closet) with mops brooms and cleaning supplies barely hidden by a folding wall. this was because they were overcrowded that day, but it was still so disrespectful and upsetting. This overrides any pros I would have to say about this establishment. Avoid them. Read reviews first- which I didn’t because of the emotional state we were all in.”

“From the moment my family and I walked into the funeral home we was treated respect. The way McCall's cared for mom was nothing short of amazing. The care and dignity of mom's remain was treated as she was there own family member. Everyone admired how beautiful mom looked. The Dunn family is forever grateful to McCall's for making a difficult time in our life so easy to get through.”
