You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“If I could give zero stars, I would. I am filing a complaint against Romero Funeral Home on Tejon Street in Denver, Colorado, regarding the handling of my sister, Cassandra Knight. The conduct we experienced was unprofessional, misleading, and deeply traumatic. Romero Funeral Home took over one month to cremate my sister, with repeated delays and little to no communication. I called daily for updates, yet my calls were rarely returned and I was consistently left without clear information. At one point, the funeral home had custody of my sister for two days without notifying anyone. During those same two days, I continued calling and was explicitly told she was not there. When I later arrived to pick her up, a staff member stated she had already been there for two days. This raised serious concerns regarding tracking, custody, and handling of her remains. Throughout the process, pricing was inconsistent and confusing. I received different quotes for the same services and had to repeatedly call for clarification, with no callbacks, while the funeral home was quick to take payment. The funeral home also changed funeral directors at the last minute without explanation, disrupting communication and continuity of care. When we went to retrieve my sister’s remains, none of her personal belongings were returned, including her clothing and jewelry. The next day, after the items were “found,” one earring was broken and one lip ring was missing. During the viewing, my sister’s wife was asked to view her first, alone, to ensure her condition was acceptable before my niece could come in. She had to do this by herself, with no staff present to support or guide her through that moment. No one asked if her appearance was acceptable or provided emotional or professional support. These actions caused significant emotional distress and compounded our grief. I am requesting a formal investigation into Romero Funeral Home’s handling of remains, chain of custody, pricing practices, staff conduct, and treatment of grieving families. Due to the mishandling of my sister and her belongings, we are also requesting appropriate compensation or restitution.”

“It's been one year to the date I received one of the most devastating phone calls in my life. My brother had passed away. 😪I live in Chicago and had to travel to Denver Colorado to make arrangements for my brother. I was given a few numbers for funeral homes. I picked Romero funeral home because they were the Most Pleasant and Professional. They were very accommodating, considering I had to make arrangements in a short period of time. Pleasantly Surprised they sent me a message that they are thinking of my family and hoping we are doing well. I've never had a funeral home do that. Thank you for your services and follow up. I give you five stars 🌹😇🙏🏿”

“We couldn't have asked for more compassionate care than what we received at Romero Funeral Home during the memorial arrangements for our son, Manuel Pacheco. From the very beginning, the staff treated us like family, showing genuine empathy for our loss during such a difficult time. They truly went above and beyond to ensure every detail was handled with grace. We found their services to be very reasonably priced, which provided us with much-needed peace of mind. What touched us most was their kindness even after the services had ended; they followed up with us personally just to check in on our well-being. We are so grateful for their support and highly recommend them to anyone in need of comfort and professionalism.”
