You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Be very careful. Dignity Memorial couples itself with an insurance company, Global Atlantic, in collecting payments for the funeral service (preneed). They talk you into "protecting your family" by selling you an insurance product when you really go there to purchase a funeral service for loved ones ahead of time. We were totally burnt by this scam-like sales scheme. We were there to purchase furneral services for our elderly parents. We thought we'd make the purchase and secure the price at the that time. Instead we were talked into buy this insurance, which was really presented to us as a way of financing. No risk of loss was warned. We were promised an opportunity to "pay up" in 12 month, meaning, all the monthly payment paid up to that point would be credited towards the actual service cost. The sales person assured us that she had already put the time on her calender and she would make sure to remind us so that we could pay it up. Well, she didn't and we trusted her too much. We reached out to her and all she coud say was "I failed to reach out to you, I promise to learn from this mistake". Her manager pretty much said the same thing, that is, the loss we endured was too bad, we need to swallow. All they can do is to sell us new insurance policies for which we can still pay up. As for the money which had already gone, too bad. Suck it up. We went with them because they seemed to be a big and well know company. We assumed that the integrity was a part of it. We were so wrong.”

“My grandfather's funeral was organized here for tomorrow, I asked them a week ago if I could skype in for the service (I live abroad), and they never even responded. I had to ask my mother (who is mourning her father!) today to help me set up a videocall/livefeed so I could be present to support my family during the memorial.”
