You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Gutterman’s Funeral Home in Boca Raton provided an exceptional level of care, compassion, and professionalism during one of the most difficult times our family has faced. From the very first conversation, the staff treated us with kindness, patience, and genuine empathy, making sure every detail was handled with dignity and respect. They guided us through the entire process with clarity and sensitivity, answering all of our questions and accommodating our family’s wishes without ever making us feel rushed or overwhelmed. The facility is peaceful and thoughtfully designed, which helped create a calm and comforting environment.. Rabbi Charles Klein did an exceptional job officiating the service. His words were meaningful, comforting, and beautifully delivered, truly honoring my Mother's life while providing strength and solace to our family during a very emotional time. What truly sets Gutterman’s apart is their attention to detail and their deep understanding of how important it is to honor a loved one’s life properly. Everything was handled seamlessly, allowing our family to focus on supporting one another rather than worrying about logistics. I am deeply grateful to the entire team at Gutterman’s Funeral Home, including Rabbi Klein, and would highly recommend them to anyone in Boca Raton seeking compassionate, professional, and trustworthy funeral services. Their care made a meaningful difference when it mattered most.”

“I recently received a decedent they prepared and shipped to my funeral home for burial. The embalming and overall preparation were exceptionally well done, and everything was handled professionally from start to finish. We value working with firms that take such pride in their work.”

“My mother planned her service pre-need and that worked fine. However when she passed I was in Antarctica and was delayed getting back. There are no airports in Antarctica and I had to wait for the ship to return to port in Argentina. They did allow for 7 days of holding her at no charge however I thought it was rather cheap that an additional $200 was added to the invoice for the extra days prior to the actual service.”
