You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Fern Creek Funeral Home owners are so compassionate and thoughtful. My family has used their services for decades and most recently they helped make my Mom’s service so meaningful and she looked so beautiful and at peace. The Deacon from St Gabriel was so amazing too. Fern Creek Funeral Home has done so much for our family and we appreciate them so much. Our family highly recommends their services”

“I stopped by Fern Creek Funeral Home and met Sarah. I told her my wife had been cremated in Florida. I needed to plan a celebration/visitation for a date a couple months away. Sarah made it seem so simple. Within 30 minutes I knew I could fly back to Florida and handle the rest of the details with phone and email. On the day of the visitation, I arrived to see the perfect size room. The slide show was shown on a big screen tv. I was impressed! Sarah came in to let me know she was there if I needed her. The next thing I knew, Sarah was directing us to the chapel for our service. I had picked out four songs which were played at perfect volume. I highly recommend finding some friends to speak at your service. The stories told at my wife’s service will be life long memories!”

“My son Joshua was at Fern Creek Funeral home on December 28th and I know it’s almost been 6 months but I am his mother and just now feeling like I can leave a review… First when I got there and seen my son he was laying way down in the casket and his ear rings was missing.. they did go buy him another pair (which was fake diamonds) not what I had brought for him to wear.. His make up was awful and caked on which made him look awful . His smile was not the smile we would see… people had sent flowers but come to find out was delivered to another service there .. I paid over 6,000. Dollars and was very disappointed … they had him holding his Bible which made his hands turn black before the service was over.. I took the Bible out of his hands and covered his hands with part of the covering that was on the used casket.. His flowers on top of the casket was so small and disappointing. The tv monitor we was given to use to show pictures was so small it was unbelievable.. I did like that they put him in the church area of the funeral home. That did help with the sight of the service… i always was impressed with the funeral home but they did not do a good job for my Sons last day… also the music was played very soft where you could hardly hear it… I just wish his day could have made a bigger impression then it did….. The staff are great people but I was not happy with the sight when I walk in to see My only Son like that….”
