You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Absolutely terrible customer service. I am a hospice nurse and work with funeral homes regularly. This organization took over 8 hours to pick up a deceased person and when I called back to get an ETA they remarked that they had "been a little busy". It was a horrific experience with no apologies or empathy during such a difficult time for the family. The family ended up waiting over 11 hours hours to have their loved one picked up.”

“Gina Terry "Director" called promptly, went through required documents. Sent them over for our immediate signature and made promises.....that were not kept. Mother came to them on Feb 4, 26, she was not cremated until Feb. 15, 26 . My brother and I reached out to Gina more than 5 times via email and phone calls none of them were answered by her. I was told she was ill which I understood however; there is no reason someone didnt step in until I received a Valentine's Day call from someone asking for permission to cremate, which was given in writing on Feb 4 as well as verbally. Her cremains remained in the Garden City facility until Feb 19 at 2pm at which time they were sent to FL National Cemetery after a promise by David Cash via phone call on Feb 16 assuring me that they would be sent on the 17th because of the Post Office was closed. On Feb 18 David proved unreliable in that the cremains were not sent....once sent on the 19th it took 2 calls to him to get the Tracking Information given by the post office per another promise to immediately send them not fulfilled. I have ZERO faith in them following directions, or fulfilling their promises!”

“While the ladies who took phone calls were helpful and kind, I found the General manager, David Cash at the Livonia officeto be anything but helpful. He didn’t attend to details, communicated poorly, was impatient and dismissive. I had to track him down to get updates on my loved ones ashes. Definitely don’t recommend.”
