You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We trusted this funeral home with the cremation of our loved one, which was our biggest mistake. Unfortunately the experience was deeply disappointing and upsetting. From the start, communication was poor and we were left without clear updates during an already painful time. Important details were not explained, and when questions were asked, we often felt dismissed rather than supported. Before whoever responds to these reviews asks me to “please call,” I want to be clear — many of our phone calls during this process went unanswered. We were left in the dark for more than three weeks with no communication, which was later excused by “wifi issues.” That is not an acceptable reason for leaving grieving families without answers. As a corporation, I would hope you look into your staff — the director and anyone associated with customer care. They are lacking in professionalism, compassion, and basic communication. Upon picking up his ashes, the staff was cold and calculated. There was no offer of condolences, only paperwork and a request for a driver’s license. The process was handled with a lack of care and dignity that no grieving family should ever have to endure. We are heartbroken not only from our loss, but from the way this funeral home mishandled such an important and final responsibility. Families deserve kindness, clarity, and respect — and sadly, we did not receive that here.”

“The professionalism of the staff at Riverside is great. They genuinely care and are exceptionally knowledgeable. We live out of state and their team really went above and beyond to accommodate the complexities involved. I found them to be prompt, professional, pricing stated clearly and honestly, flexible and kind. There was some confusion initially as our loved one lived in Santa Fe and they originally had a branch in Santa Fe and we thought her remains were going there, but they were brought to Albuquerque instead, as there is not currently a Santa Fe branch of Riverside (they say it's undergoing a remodel). So do make sure if you have a loved one in Santa Fe who is going to Riverside that it is, in fact, Santa Fe (once their branch has been remodeled) and not Albuquerque. I want to state the Riverside Team went above and beyond to smooth over and make the communication "miss" right. And did so with compassion. All in all, a decent experience at a difficult time.”

“I can't thank Danny in the Santa Fe office enough for his care, compassion and excellent customer service. My dad died in California and wanted to be buried in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Danny coordinated with the funeral home in CA and the National Cemetery so that I didn't have to. He answered all of my many questions so patiently and calmed my nerves. The funeral service was just perfect. It is such a confusing, emotional time for a family--my dad (and I) could not have been better cared for than by Danny. I highly recommend Danny and Riverside.”
