You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Jacks took care of my dad’s service and cremation, Mr. Riley sat down with my family and helped us plan his arrangements. He was kind and compassionate. The funeral director Melanie was amazing and very professional. The pastor that helped with the service was very respectful and did a wonderful job as well. My only reason for not giving five stars is because one of the ladies who work the front desk was rude on several different occasions during the planning and viewing. Thank you so much Mr.Riley..”

“I am deeply disappointed with the level of unprofessionalism I experienced at this funeral home. During one of the most painful and vulnerable times a family can face, their behavior made everything even harder. The staff showed a complete lack of communication, compassion, and basic professionalism. We were met with disorganization, dismissive attitudes, and mistakes that should never happen in a place that is supposed to handle families with care and respect. Instead of offering support, they added stress, confusion, and frustration to an already heartbreaking situation. A funeral home should bring comfort, clarity, and dignity, this place did the opposite. I would not recommend their services to anyone who expects compassion, reliability, or respect for their loved ones. Families deserve better than this.”

“I had to remove my loved one strictly out of consent that he wouldn’t be treated properly. They were rude insensitive and unbothered.Trying to get and information was pointless. The person at the front seat on yesterday has no business being the person that you see first. She is the worse possible person to greet anyone. They also made communication with non immediate family and non family members prior to the parents about the arrival. No accountability for that either. The only thing I got was “well i don’t know” along with a shoulder shrug. He was there less than 2 hours and was moved to a place who show us all respect.”
