You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Conejo Mountain is such a beautiful and peaceful place. The funeral service for my mom was absolutely perfect — I couldn’t have asked for a more comforting setting to say goodbye. Every person we worked with was kind, compassionate, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. Their warmth and care made a heartbreaking day a little easier to bear. Thank you, Conejo Mountain, for giving my mom such a beautiful farewell and for treating our family with so much love and respect.”

“Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park and Crematory is an incredible place. The funeral home and cemetery are set back against the mountains, in Camarillo. The grounds are very beautiful, serene and peaceful. We arrived at 8:00am for a tour of the grounds and to discuss the logistics of the expected passing of my mom. When my wife and I stepped out of the car there was a flock of geese flying by overhead and deer that could be seen in the hills adjacent to the cemetery. Whatever arrangement I was going to make I knew, from that moment, that this was the place for my mom. We first took a tour of the grounds with Patrick. He was excellent in explaining everything very thoroughly and showing us all of the options and their various price points. After the tour we met with Destiny. Destiny, like Patrick, was great at explaining everything very thoroughly when it came to the actual service and all of the different options available. Between Patrick and Destiny it really felt like they cared. I gave Destiny my information and my wife and I left. My mom passed away 3 months later. I was with her when she passed and I waited for Conejo Mountain to come and pick her up. The gentleman that picked her up was very respectful and allowed me as much time as I needed to say goodbye. I received a call from Destiny the next day acknowledging receipt of my mom and my wife and I went to the funeral home that day to meet with her. Patrick saw us and remembered us. He came in to the room we were in to say hi and we chatted for a few minutes. Destiny was absolutely incredible through the entire process. For personal reasons, I decided to do a direct cremation with a viewing prior to the cremation. On the day of the viewing, Mario, was our funeral attendant and he was great. He had a very calming demeanor which helped me stay calm. He explained everything and offered us anything we felt we needed. Everything was perfect. I cannot say enough positive things about Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park and Crematory and their staff. They gave me sincere comfort at a very tough time and that will never be forgotten. Thank you”

Their warmth and compassion made all the difference, and we truly felt cared for throughout the entire process.
