You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Total turn off! I was trying to make an appointment to make advance plans for my mother in law, who is ill. The owner was so rude and had no sense of compassion. I was so turned off, we chose not to go meet him and go to another funeral home. They were so kind and friendly, worked so well my husband in planning for his mother's final celebration of her life. LEARN TO BE COMPASSIONATE!”

“We used Morgado services to bury our grandmother. We did not have a wake but asked if one person could see her for 1 min to make sure she was in her dress and had her bible. They did not allow anyone to see her. The place is so dingy and dark. The staff is cold and have no sympathy at all. The casket my grandmother was laid in was all scratched up.If you would like to have a respectful and peaceful burial go with another funeral home. Would not recommend!”

“We used this funeral home for my grandmother. I do not recommend using them. They are cold and did not welcome any guests when they entered the funetL home. When it was time to go to cemetery, the casket was in the vehicle and we were not able to inspect the casket. When we arrived at the cemetery they didnt ask if any of the family wanted to carry the casket. They didnt even wait forneveryone to get out of they're vehicle and rolled the casket to the plot. The casket from a far appeared tonhave scratches. Hownis this possible if its suppose to be a new casket? The funeral home did not speak to the crowd and say immediate family first. Honestly the whole experience was cold and unsympathetic. I would recommend going anywhere else except here for your loved ones.”
