You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My mother, sister and I were there recently to make my dad's funeral arrangements. While there since my sister and mother were present I decided to plan mine when my dad's planning was concluded. The ladies were very helpful and informative. The process was so easy, and affordable, that despite my sister not having any intentions of making her own plans jumped on board and purchased her own cremation plan! It was light hearted and we made it a comical event for my mother taking her mind momentarily off the main reason we were there in the first place. When we left, packages in hand, I had an overwhelming sense of relief. I was so glad I finally got this "oh so important event" settled. Now when my time comes my family won't have a thing to do other than if they want something to add to make it more special. I suggest everyone make an appointment to at least talk about it, see how things work, how it's done and how they can help you. You might as well, this isn't something you can avoid anyway!”

“When my mother passed away unexpectedly this week we were lost on how to handle her arrangements. The staff at McConnell were absolutely phenomenal taking care of us. Susan took all my calls, texts, emails, and stop ins to ask questions and never made me feel like I was bothering her. Jackie answered our questions honestly and helped us be at ease about the next steps after the service. I didn’t get the names of the folks that helped us the day of the service but they were also kind and patient with our grieving family. This is the second time we’ve used them for a family member and we will use them again anytime needed. Thank you McConnell for making a hard time just a bit easier.”

“McConnell”s staff is so caring and professional. They work with you in every way possible to get you through this difficult journey. I have known several of these folks for several years. They did the service for my dad in June of 2023 and recently my mom’s this month. We were so thankful for all they did for us.”
