You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My heart is full of appreciation for your services during our family tragedy. I cannot find words to express our gratitude. Years ago as I was growing up people in my family were not very positive about your profession but boy were they unaware of your professionalism. You went way above our expectations in every aspect. May you all feel our peace and blessings Diane and family”

“"I am sincerely thankful for the exceptional service provided by Courtney and Tory from Pearson's Mortuary during this challenging time. Their compassion and professionalism were evident throughout, especially during the military funeral with high honors for my husband Dennis. From the respectful covering of the American flag when his body was removed from the home, to the beautiful custom engraved wooden dovetailed urn and flag holder, every detail was handled with care and reverence. As I prepared for multiple family members to arrive from out of state, I was able to feel confident that Courtney had all the details of the service under control. It's worth noting that Courtney went above and beyond, driving two hours out of town to personally pick up the wooden urn and flag box. I highly recommend Pearson's Mortuary for their exemplary service and heartfelt support during this difficult period."”

“Pearson's funeral home was absolutely wonderful in helping with all of our needs. I had to do a lot of the arrangements over the phone as I was in Minnesota and my mother was in Oregon. They even sent someone to the assisted living facility to pick up the urn that my mother had picked out for her cremation. My mother had a funeral plan that had already been paid for so there was minimal due except for death certificates. Pearson's prices are very affordable and pre planning made her wishes for cremation to be carried out perfectly and remains sent to me. I have to say truly of all the people I had to contact or deal with the people at Pearson's funeral home were so kind, sympathetic, professional and polite. They made a difficult and sad time so much easier. I would definitely recommend anyone needing funeral services to go to Pearson's funeral home. Everything was carried out flawlessly. I cannot thank you enough for all you did to make this a positive experience.”
