You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“From the moment we placed the call, the staff here were so kind and flexible. When they arrived to take my grandfather they were so compassionate and ensured we had as much time as we needed until we were ready to let him go. They even left a rose on his pillow. The next day, we worked with John Bardo on preparations, and John and Joanne during the services. John took care of everything I asked for and more throughout this tough process. He made everything so easy, and on top of that, made an awful time really beautiful and peaceful. They did a beautiful job making my grandfather look like himself, and helped us set up the visitation room exactly how we wanted it. John added extra personal touches that meant a lot. He personalized the room signs with airplanes for my grandfather and had several screens throughout the room with his picture. The room was very modern, with round tables and flowers. It felt more like a celebration than a funeral. John helped us every step of the way and ensured even military honors and marines were present. Joanne stayed with us from the wake to the funeral and was so kind and helpful. They both made this experience better than we expected and we were so grateful to have had their help. Thank you for all of your hard work and compassion. I couldn’t recommend them enough.”

“Michael Pignatora was excellent. Him and his team handled every detail with professionalism, dignity, and respect. Michael made sure my dad was able to have representatives for The U.S. Navy at his grave sight and it brought all of us to tears. Our family has needed the services of Perna, Dengler, Roberts Funeral Home multiple times and each experience was as good as the previous. It’s a tough time when a loved one passes away and we would not use any other company to use.”

“Incredible team of people to work with during arguably one of the most painful, stressful times of your life. Michael was such a caring, calm, and empathetic person. He was such a pleasure to work with as you could tell he genuinely cared about the feelings you were feeling. I couldn't imagine having gone through that experience with anyone other than Michael and the folks at Dengler, Roberts, Perna. Can't say enough good.”
