You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Every service from the first meeting for services to the interment was carried out at the highest level of care and professionalism one expects with funeral services. Everyone we worked with on our homegoing celebration for our auntie was patient, caring, and professional. They showed the utmost interest in helping us get every detail correct. Ms. Elaine's years of experience in the funeral business is very evident in how lovely our loved one looked and how well their services were executed on the day of the funeral. We, the family were very pleased.”

“Original post from a year ago: lack of professionalism of attendants. It is unacceptable to tell the musician to cut a song short in the middle of a song saying "we gotta go". Another attendant gave cut off cue to Pastor during reflections from family and friends. This was the matriarch of the family who lived a beautiful life. When you are hired to provide funeral services you are to fulfill the wishes of the family regardless how long it takes! I know this family spent money because it was no cheap casket etc. Also; the hearse and limousines need to be updated..... This is 2023 not 1985 or 1993...... The embalming and preparation of the body is very good but dealing with the public is crucial. Some of your team lack in dealing with the public. I feel that it's a disservice to any family when staff talk negatively about the program that was planned by the family..... You should have not planned two funerals close together on the same day.... You can't rush a family who is paying you for the service.... If I need to chose a funeral home due to death in my family it definitely will not be Chavis-Parker Funeral Home. I was turned off UPDATE: One of the funeral attendants did apologize for the above incident. To me, it takes a person with integrity to do that. I had forgotten about it but the individual made it right. Therefore it is worth noting. None of us are perfect we all are growing to become better. I will update my rating because Chavis-Parker Funeral Home is a strong pillar in Orange County/Hillsborough area. They have served the community tirelessly in the time of bereavement. I salute them!”

“I will never forgive this place for giving my dad’s ashes to family members who were ever there for him while he was alive. My sister and I were the only ones taking care of him for over 5 years. My sister and the guardian which is the state made sure no one else got his ashes because they were never there for him, and now I hear one of the employees illegally distributed them to people they never seen before just because they started crying. I can’t believe you guys would do this to us. Now his ashes are even with someone who might not even be his actual biological daughter. The person name Christina, who was crying never really knew my father and caused issues the three times he ever met her including having relationship with a half brother and never apologized to my parents or myself for the hell she put us through. I can’t believe you guys would willingly give their parents ashes away without the permission from the state guardian and permission of the daughters who were the ones taking care of him while the rest of the family did nothing but used him. Thank you for devastating our lives even more after losing our father after more than 5 years of getting no help from any of the people that claim to be his family except my sister and I.”
