You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This place. .. I have no words except thank you. Thank you Jesus, thank you God for this place. You gave us the greatest gift of our lives with the care, support, time, patience, understanding, empathy, compassion of yourselves as individuals and as Sharon Richardson Hospice Care Center EVER. What you gave to our family ... there are no words. This is absolutely in my opinion a place God himself has graced with an unprecedented presence your FEEL immediately when you walk in that door. Denali is the resident four-legged head doggy angel there. Our family doggies were welcomed to be with their very important person. God's grace and blessings to every single one of you that is involved here. 🙏 We are forever touched in a special way because of this place. On a happy note though, I do appreciate the orange tape on the feloneous rental car that caused me to accidentally borrow a nurse's car instead of my own and being so kind about it all. Kourtney, I'll never forget you! I hope the issue got resolved, but I am still being chided about this one lol... We love every one of you and the Kourtney incident certainly makes a good story!!!”

“My mother was with Bristol Hospice at her assisted living home (New Day) in Manitowoc. They were amazing. However when she fell and broke her femur they had to let her go when she was admitted to Holy Family as they did not have a contract with the local hospitals. So I reached out to Sharon Richardson Hospice (thats who the hospital told me was the hospice they used) and spoke with someone late on that Saturday night and was told someone would come to the hospital the next morning (Sunday) between 10AM and 11AM, and also was told they would call me the next day. No one ever showed up to the hospital and also no call. My mother's nurse ended up reaching out to them. They never did call my phone and the nurse brought her phone in there LATE that afternoon with them on the phone asking for her POA paperwork hours and hours later, like 24 HOURS after I had called them and told them my mom was dying and in pain. Every hour was so hard. At that point I was emotionally exhausted as my mom was in severe pain and suffering. I kind of freaked out on the phone saying "How would you feel if this was your mother suffering like this and y'all didnt show up when you said you would or even call us." She was screaming in pain. We were both emotionally distraught. I also then said "We don't need y'all anymore." and hung up. (I was so so upset and wasn't thinking straight) I did have the nurse call them back right away and tell them we did still want them to come and as soon as possible. Fast forward to 10pm that Sunday night and I called the nurse in to ask where they were, why were they still not there and still hadn't called MY phone (they did have my personal number). She said, they said someone would be here the NEXT morning (Sunday). No one ever showed. All while my mom was still in severe pain and suffering so bad, it was so hard to watch. The nurse at the hospital FINALLY called the on call doctor to come to the in and up her pain meds around 10pm that night (Sunday). Which he had to basically sedate her but he made sure he did not leave that night until she was no longer yelling for help in pain. He was a very nice man and seemed to actually care. She ending up passing that night into early morning Monday. My whole family was devastated and so upset with how Sharon Richardson Hospice handled things. They never did show up.. not even that Monday morning and no one ever did call my phone.. even after she passed. I pray to God no one else ever has to go through this with their loved one. I would highly recommend trying a different Hospice if possible.”

“Our family is grateful that the Hospice team was there during our mother's final days. Everyone was very professional; they worked hard to keep her comfortable and were very attentive to her needs. Their support and sympathy helped us during our time of grief.”
