You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“You guys have been around a long time. Staff is friendly and helpful. Just some advice…don’t be cheap; bring back the mints. Don’t say since Covid it’s not sanitary.. they come wrapped. People coughing, talking in close proximity and need something like a mint. All other funeral homes have them. Update a bit.. you’ve got far too many guests cramming into a corner where the receiving line is trying to watch a video. Nobody can see anything. Get more tv monitors mounted and think of the guests. I’ve been to far too many funerals there lately. THINK. Move the tv into the larger room to the left where people are mingling. Your layout is poor as nobody knows where the line begins. Go with the upgrade and dig into your pockets. People want to see the memories and not all clients make photo boards or have time. Lastly, WAY too much time lost in between waiting for the Mass to begin and standing around in the cold; graveside. The priest should hustle and arrive before the ceremony begins. Someone needs to stay on top of that better. Just feedback from someone who’s been too and planned far too many services. Thanks.”

“Throughout the years our family has used Peabody’s services many times. Recently, we called upon them again. As usual, Craig was kind, compassionate and supportive. His professionalism, advice and attention to detail is unmatched. Planning funeral services for a loved one is not the most pleasant of tasks, but he made the process seamless. For that, we can’t thank him enough. We wholeheartedly recommend Craig, Erik and their entire staff.”

“My mother had passed away and we knew that Peabody Funeral Home would be there to help guide us through this difficult time and process. Peabody is a family owned & operated business & a highly respected member of the Derry Community for decades. We had been to Peabody for other services for friends & were always impressed & comforted as to how the families were treated. Everyone at Peabody we had contact with, either on the phone or in person were extremely professional, kind, compassionate and accommodating. My mother was cremated & we purchased her urn through Peabody. They clearly explained the entire process & kept us informed through out. They will be there for you & your family also.”
