You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot say enough about the exceptional care I received from McVeigh Funeral Home. During the most difficult time of my life, they were the steady, compassionate presence I so desperately needed. From the very beginning, they were professional, patient, kind and incredibly understanding. They answered every question with kindness, accommodated changes without hesitation, and made the entire planning process feel seamless and manageable. Their guidance and thoughtful suggestions helped me create a service that truly celebrated my mother’s life- exactly the way she would have wanted it. Kristen, David, and the entire staff treated my mother with extraordinary tenderness and respect. Their compassion was genuine, and their professionalism was evident in every detail. In my most vulnerable moments, they gave me a sense of peace and quite literally held me together. I wholeheartedly and confidently recommend McVeigh Funeral Home to anyone in need of caring, dignified and truly compassionate service.”

“Our family had a deeply disappointing and distressing experience with this funeral home during one of the most painful times of our lives. The owner, David McVeigh, displayed troubling and unprofessional behavior throughout the arrangement process, including sighing, rolling his eyes, and making us feel as though we were inconveniencing him simply by being there while grieving a profound loss. Nearly every discussion was redirected to money, as if we were unaware that funeral arrangements involve cost, rather than being treated with empathy and care. Most upsetting, our family clearly requested twice that my uncle’s passing and service remain private and not be published, in accordance with his wishes. We were explicitly assured that this request would be honored. Despite this, after the service we discovered that his information had been published on two separate websites. When we returned to the funeral home to address this, we spoke with Kristin Parente, who dismissed the situation as a “clerical error.” Unfortunately, once personal information is published online, it cannot truly be undone. This breach caused additional pain and distress during an already devastating time. Grieving the loss of a beloved family member is difficult enough without having to endure a lack of compassion, consideration, and basic professionalism from a facility entrusted with such a sensitive responsibility. If you are looking for a funeral home that is caring, respectful, and supportive, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. We deeply regret choosing this facility and would not recommend this company to anyone.”
