You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My family's experience with March - East was stressful, to say the least. My mom requested their services prior to her passing. My sister & I did our best to honor her wishes. Our initial meeting with Gabriel went ok (she was very compassionate). To finalize arrangements, we had met with her backup. Afterwards, we were met with administrative, customer service & quality of work issues. Guests who were unable to attend services were not able to stream & were given various reasons as to why. On the day of the viewing, it had taken 7-10 minutes for them to find a director to open the chapel. My mom looked like a totally different person, to the point that we were asked by many guests if that was our mom. I was unable to say my final goodbyes because of her appearance. Also, her name was incorrect in the signing book. I was told by a few persons that some staff's attitude was unpleasant when asked questions. While everyone's experience may be different, my family has agreed to not use their services in the future. Best wishes to those who do”

“(There is someone there named Ms. Gladys and she is a warm, COMFORTING, genuine, AWESOME, SUPER HELPFUL, professional & beautiful human being!) Funeral Home is beautiful inside & Comforting. Warmly greeted upon entering by front desk staff. Offered beverages. Spoken to and treated with dignity & compassion. Ms Code tried her best to make everything work out; I did not have a lot of money and my mom passed suddenly with NOTHING except my aunt received a $650 burial voucher from DSS which 1 particular social worker did her best to sabotage payment (for whatever reason; ) it worked out in the end though, thanks to a loving aunt in law, plus God is Always Good. Handled my mom's direct cremation arrangements with Care and handled me with care because I was basically scrambling around on my own, and even though 2 relatives went with me to the funeral home, I was still on my own. Even the 2 staff, a woman & a gentleman, who were there on Labor Day when I went to pick up my mom's urn were gently + naturally supportive. The Care from March was greatly appreciated. Losing your Mother is an indescribable Pain; losing your Loved 1 in general is difficult enough. Grateful to God the experience was not made worse by a thoughtless funeral home which was not my Experience here. Godspeed to my little mama may she Rest In Peace ❤️🙏.”

“I hated dealing with them, a lot of them are not compassionate, it’s more of a business to them than anything. My funeral director was Lamont Thompson, he’s very aggressive and just rushes you through everything, he even rushed us to close my grandmothers casket, with him everything is about time and business only. He said he’s a firefighter, he needs to stick to that, I would never recommend anyone to work with him. The nicest person I’ve dealt with is Michelle and she handles alot of the billing so that says a lot if the billing person was my favorite.”
