You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Bozell Funeral Home-Lahm Chapel was amazing from beginning to end. First let me say after our mother passed away suddenly we had to decide quickly which funeral home to send her to, since our family has used one funeral home in Fortville for many, many years that’s what we went with (huge mistake). Mom was in assisted living and on Medicaid with no life insurance. We could not afford a $10k funeral and we were told if we went with Medicaid she would get a cardboard casket with a basic liner that will fill with water, not something you want your mother in. I asked if they would work with us, the answer was always no. I called around and found Bozell Funeral Home- Lahm Chapel in Pendleton, I spoke to Darrell Lahm and then Noah Bozell called to follow up. I continued to try to work with the home in Fortville but when the comment was made “I’m charging you $300 a week to store your moms body”came out of his mouth, I was done, my mom was not an animal, you don’t speak like that about someone’s loved one. I called Noah and he worked on getting my Mother moved to Bozell. It was like a ton of bricks was lifted off my shoulders knowing my mother was in loving hands. Darrell, Noah and their entire staff are compassionate, loving, caring individuals. My entire family will now be using Bozell Funeral Homes moving forward. We will never step foot into the one in Fortville again. If you want your loved one taken care of and you don’t want the stress and you want to be treated with dignity and respect and handled by someone who understands what you are going through and don’t see you as another dollar then Bozell should be your first and only choice.”

“Wilson St Pierre helped me through one of the worse times when my Mom passed away April 2023. They were compassionate and a true blessing in understanding what I was going through. They made a difficult time much easier for me. They also helped my Mom in 2009 when my Dad passed away. It's a beautiful, calming and professional facility.”
