You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“First let me say Our Son passed away in March 2025. Our funeral director was Kim Lawyer. EVERYTHING and when I say everything I mean it was excellent. Next: My husbands mother passed away 11/11/25 and we were assigned Aida Gonzalez as funeral director. We have had nothing but trouble beginning with the day we “met with Aida”. I brought the obituary ALREADY WRITTEN OUT. It took Aida 5 times to type it correctly. I specifically told Aida how picky Frances was about her hair and gave her a photo so she could see how it was to be fixed. The day I went to “view” my mother in law her hair looked exactly like it did when she was in ICU. Aida I believe was “on vacation” and Kim Lawyer was with me when I viewed Frances. Kim assured me SHE would see that Frances’ hair was fixed. A day or two later Aida called and said “ she forgot to get Glenn (my husband) to sign a form could he “stop by” and sign it. The next problem was on Dec 5,2025 I called the life insurance company to inquire where Glenn’s money was and was told they never received a death certificate from the mortuary and no claim had even been started. I emailed the death certificate to the life insurance company myself Next issue: Called Aida to see if she could “check on” claim and see when Glenn could expect his money. Today is 12/11/25 and I still haven’t heard back from Aida. Next Issue: Went to probate today (1 month from date of death) Probate stated they needed a paid receipt with beneficiary listed from mortuary. So we went to mortuary. Shawna attempted to “help us “ but gave us the declaration page from the life insurance company I told her probate said they couldn’t accept anything from life insurance company that it had to be from Floyds Mortuary. At which time Shawna goes to “get someone to help her, help us” A man by the name of Scott Hoffman came and had a “receipt” in his hand. On the receipt it had my husband (who is alive and was sitting in front of him) as the decedent. And had my Mother in Law (the deceased) as the Beneficiary!!! He tried to convince me that it was correct. Was very rude. Talked over me. And told Shawna (receptionist) that he had tried to talk to me but “wasn’t getting thru” I explained to him that Glenn was the Beneficiary of his mother’s life insurance and probate was asking for a paid receipt showing he was beneficiary. He said “this is what I’m showing you “ I said No it isn’t you have my husband as deceased and his mother as her OWN beneficiary??? He argued and argued with me and finally he walked away. Thank God ! I sent photos of what they offered me to our probate contact and she said they couldn’t accept any of what they offered me at Floyds. She stated she would contact Mortuary herself and request what she needed from them. I have never been so disrespected in my 57 years of life. I would not recommend Floyds Mortuary on East Main Street in Spartanburg to anyone UNLESS YOU DEAL DIRECTLY WITH KIM LAWYER ! Update: received a call from Gina this morning. Hopefully all issues will be addressed and fixed. Thank you Gina”

“I am writing on the behalf of my mother who has been dealing with them for going on 2+ years to have them to repair my dad's marker that they damaged. My mother has been working with Denise on this issue. She has promised on numerous occasions to have it repaired, but it has yet to be completed. The marker is is Lincoln Memorial Gardens. I will continue to write reviews until this issue is resolved.”

“I lost my Mom and was devastated. I went with my 90 year old father and brother to make arrangements and Lori Posey was absolutely amazing dealing with us during this grief. She was so caring, kind, and patient. She explained everything that we needed to do so carefully. She provided me with her contact number for questions. She fixed my Mom to look like herself even with all the damage to her face, and she just showed how sincerely she cared about all of us. Her kindness and attention to every detail was so appreciated. It made things so much easier for our family. She felt like a friend at a time when we all needed that. I am so grateful.”
