You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Aliah and Ray provided excellent services to us arranging my mother funeral. As Family Advisor and Funeral Director they are very supportive, professional, and provide outstanding customer service. They went above and beyond making sure all funeral arrangements were done according to our expectations. It was very windy during the funeral. My mother’s picture and majority of flower arrangements would not stand upright . They made sure everything still was presentable on the ground around the grave. Thank you very much for all your assistance, compassion, and kindness in the time of need!”

“My parents purchased their plots at Sunset Lawn Cemetery several decades ago and it has been the final resting place for our grandmother, father, brother, and most recently, our mother. Sadly, our latest experience left me doubting that we will continue to use their facilities. When we arrived to take care of the final details of my mother’s passing, we met with Jorge and Mike (District Mgr). The meeting began with a “circle of services” to go over today’s costs should we want to plan and prepare for our own services. I thanked Jorge for the information and asked if we could start with the plans we have for our mother instead. I realized this is a business and although Jorge was apologetic, it wasn’t the reason we were there. Although we were informed at the meeting the services were prepaid, during a subsequent meeting, we were told they were not. What should have been a balance due of $700 turned into $3000+. We asked to speak with a mgr and Elise Marie Surucu, managing partners of Operations, joined us. We explained the situation and how we were misled in believing my mom’s services were taken care of and thought we only owed $700. We presented her with the previous printed estimate showing a balance of $700 and shared that my sister was present at the original meeting (with my mom) and was told the balance would need to be paid upon my mother’s death. Her response was that it was a long time ago and she could not speak to what happened during that time. Since it was not signed, there was nothing she could do. We asked how many other families were misled and requested she meet us half way on the costs. Again, her response was that she wasn’t here at that time. Her response was very direct and lacked any compassion. I understand this is a business, however, it is not unreasonable to want or need a level of compassion and consideration during such a difficult time. It really isn’t about the money, but more that my mom thought she took care of everything and was misled. We left very disappointed and questioned whether we will use this facility as our final resting place. On another note the team that came to pick up my mom upon her death were great! The older gentleman showed so much compassion and care that it truly touched our hearts during such a difficult time. He deserves 5 stars!”
