You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We worked with Colin after the sudden passing of my mother. He treated the situation with dignity and treated my brother, sister-in-law, and me in a compassionate and delicate manor, which we needed as we took on such a sorrowful task. He even took the time and care to split my mother's ashes between us. I cannot speak more highly of my experience with Colin and Major Erickson.”

“When our Mother passed away early this year it was a very difficult time for us. Tyler Schaefer was so kind & professional as he guided us through everything we needed to know. From transporting our Mother from Minneapolis to setting up the viewing & services , to arranging the committal service. (Which was at a later date.) Through all of our phone calls & questions, he remained so pleasant & helpful. We never felt rushed & Tyler took the time to explain everything. Dean Cataldo & Brian Cataldo were so compassionate & helpful throughout the services. They handled all with such sensitivity. They so helped us get through a very tough time. Our family has used Major Erickson for all our family needs throughout many, many years. We definitely would recommend them if one is in need of these services!”

“Recently my husband & I were at your facility for a visitation. Masks were required, but other than that, you completely dropped the ball. We were there early so perhaps 25 people had gathered. There was no social distancing, no dots or arrows on floor, & basically no staff was around to direct traffic or advise where to go. It seemed that even the family was not given direction as to where to stand & when to begin receiving visitors. The large room was packed to the gills with chairs with no chance of distancing if a large group was there. Our friends came about 1/2 hr later & said probably over 150 people there & absolutely same scenario. You must do better!! Unless & until you do, we will not be returning & I will recommend to others to do the same. You’ve had mths to figure this out. Totally inexcusable!!”
