You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I was thoroughly impressed with the services we received from Evergreen Funeral Home when my father passed away. I had helped my parents arrange for the advanced planning at Evergreen. It's not a pleasant task to think about your parents' end days, but when my father passed, I was so grateful all those questions I answered back in happier days were already finalized. On the day of my father's passing, Jeff arrived within an hour of notifying 911 to deal with coroner questions. Kelly followed shortly after with her kind, gentle manner. She consoled my mom, who was in shock after all that just happened. They both were so sweet. Knowing my father was to be cremated, we waited 30 days before we had the service so out-of-state family members could arrive. Jeff & Kelly were always on top of things to make sure I was aware of what was going to happen next. I delivered memorabilia for the service which they lovingly displayed with care. We held the ceremony at their beautiful location and it could not have been better. Jeff even made arrangements for the Military Honor, and a local VFW group presented a flag to my mother for his service in the Air Force. I know that when the times come for my mother's passing, I will be met with the same professionalism, care, and compassion that Jeff and Kelly exude. I highly recommend Evergreen Funeral Home and talking to them about advanced planning. It made a world of difference on that day. I can't thank them enough.”

“We have utilized the services of Evergreen Funeral Home when our son died in 2013. A month ago, I was able to work with them again when a close friend had a death in the family. I will always be grateful for there kind, caring presence during our son's services and preparations. At a time when we were unable to even think very far ahead, Jeff and Kelly guided us through the process creating a very personal meaningful service. They took the time to get to know our son and listened to what we needed to begin our grieving journey. They were able to accommodate a large crowd. Last month we planned a very small funeral out of town. Jeff and Kelly once again were excellent with my friend during each step. During this time of COVID restrictions, Jeff thought ahead to contact Minnesota to learn their mandates and then was present during the graveside service helping to create a very intimate, personal celebration of life. As a chaplain, I have worked with many funeral homes over the years. I highly recommend Evergreen Funeral home from the eyes of a grieving mother and as a professional. Thank you Jeff and Kelly!”

“Was not very happy with the Service. The two workers at the funeral were very rude and cold to not only me but my family and friends of my Grandmother. Everything had to be exact and perfect. Heaven forbid if you left your purse or jacket on a chair for a second because then you would get scolded at like were a child. At one point they grabbed my children harshly by the arm and scolded them. Mind you my Grandmother had 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren there. Most of them were playing outside because that was the best place. They came inside for a second to find me yes running to find me which I was next to the front door, and that is when the worker grabbed my children. They also took the note cards off the flowers so my family member had a tough time figuring out where to send thank you cards to. I would not recommend this place to family and friends.”
