You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We chose to preplan my mother's funeral at Orlando Funeral Home and we could not be happier. The preplanning meeting with John Orlando was compassionate and thorough as he navigated us through a very hard and difficult time. He made the options easy to navigate and was very upfront about pricing and shared his professional opinions. As things progressed with my mother's dementia, Michele Orlando was available for any questions and helped us with any loose ends. She came to our house numerous times to answer questions and walked us through the process of a Catholic funeral mass. I asked her to limit our options for reading and music and she provided her favorites. She made recommendations, took the information and printed the programs, spoke with the priest, singer and musician, so that we really didn't have to do a thing but show up. My mother passed in the middle of the night and Hospice made the call. My mother's body was picked up and taken in a caring and gentle way. Michele called us at 2 o'clock in the morning to share her sympathies and to explain what would happen next. Michele sent us a link to upload photos and she scanned ones that we couldn't send digitally. She put together a lovely slideshow tribute to my mother that would be played on a continuous reel at the viewing. The funeral home was beautifully decorated and comfortable. A large framed photo that Michele had previously edited hung next to my mom. My mother looked lovely, just like she did before dementia entered her life. It was obvious that lots of care went into getting her ready. It took our breaths away because she looked so at peace. Before we left the viewing, Michele thoroughly went over flower arrangements and items that we wanted to keep. On the day of the funeral, Michele made sure that she was at the church early and walked the readers and pallbearers through their duties so that any fears or anxieties were alleviated. The services that were provided exceeded our expectations over and over again. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. Comapssion and empathy were shown to us in abundance.”

“Michelle and John Orlando went out of their way to customize hours for my father-in-law. Is it ok to say…they made it fun?! When we first met with John following the death, we were not sure what we wanted to do. John worked with us to come up with a plan that really honored and reflected our father…classic car cruise-in calling hours with the majority of the time spent outdoors with an Elvis / The Beach Boys playlist. On the day of the calling hours, John, Michelle and their son worked so hard, adding special little touches and helping us in any way they could. Thank you Orlando Funeral Home from our family to yours💛💛”

“Bless Orlando Funeral Home. Michelle and John are truly amazing people. What has definitely been the hardest thing my family and I have ever had to do is saying our “Until we meet again”to our mother, Orlando Funeral has definitely made this time much smoother for us. They have been a light for us during this dark time. Lovely people. Great service.”
