You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“As a former funeral director, this was my first time sitting on the other side of the table making arrangements for my parent. Our experience, from the first call (through our hospice and then confirmation call from removal team), the removal, the arrangement, and finally picking up ashes and death certificates, was one of compassion and professionalism. We believe that people are placed in our path to lighten our burden and ease our grief - Mark, Kachina, and Kirk - it is more than coincidence for us that we chose Attrell's. Thank you for the work you do and the kindness you showed during our very saddest days.”

“When Leonard Attrell owned Attrell’s Funeral Home we had three occasions for family members to need his services as well as attending services for others. They were respected members of the community & provided the best example of their business. It was a little concerning to think new owners might change things for our small town. My sister recently passed & I cannot express the kindness, professionalism & obvious care that has continued at Attrell’s. From the first visit letting them know what we soon would need to caring follow-up the whole situation was made easier for all of us. Every person is not only professional but makes sure every need is taken care of as you wish. We needed transport to Central Washington & that was handled seamlessly. Our family thanks them for doing everything necessary for her & making this time easier for us. Thank you Attrell’s.”

“As a family, We mainly worked with Kirk. He has been amazing! Their entire team has been gracious and kind during a tender place in saying goodbye to a very loved Husband, Father, Poppy. We appreciate the personal, caring, professionalism.”
