You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“When my mom passed away in March I worked with Ken, who directed us and helped to make a difficult time go smoothly. We were great full. Then my sister Sheila passed away a couple months later and I worked with Ken and Kathy. Iwas particularly impressed with Kathy, the afro-american lady because she styled my sister's hair and presented her with beautiful makeup. We were very pleased with her work. Overall legacy provided for our family a positive, professional experinence. Thank you so much. Ps jolene and Becky are wonderful assets to the business.”

“The only good experience we had here was working with the owner to try and make things right. She was very polite and professional. We ended up switching to a different funeral home for my mom’s service because of an awful experience my family dealt with when starting to plan. I think the funeral director we worked with name was Steve, he was very rude and in my opinion should NOT be in this line of work. We wanted to cremate my mom and have a service but without talking to us the funeral director embalmed my mom. The funeral home we ended up choosing told us that the embalming did here was done “poorly and inexperienced”. Because of this mistake done by Legacy my mom has to have a closed casket service. There are cheaper and way better funeral homes in Anchorage so I’d recommend going somewhere else.”

“UPDATE: the owner contacted us and we had a sit down. Don’t want to give out a whole bunch of details about our meeting but she made it right. You can tell she actually cares about her clients and their feelings by her actions. I really appreciate Brittney (the owner) for being so kind and understanding in our time of darkness DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PLACE!!!!! LOOK AT ALL THE WARNINGS/REVIEWS AND BELIEVE THEM!!! Was asking the guy at the first meeting how long a body can be stored before a funeral (because I want to give time to relatives to get up here from lower 48 and get in from the villages) and he cuts me off and says first 3 days are free then it’s $20 a day after “because we’re not a storage facility” like my mom is extra junk that needs to be stashed somewhere. Whole time from the first phone call up until the moment I told him money isn’t an issue he sounded totally uncaring and unprofessional. That dude DOES NOT need to be in charge of peoples dead loved ones. Think his name is John. Anyways I’m gunna pay them for embalming her and picking her up from Regional and have Anchorage Funeral Home pick her up and give the rest of the thousands of dollars to them instead. I don’t want to support this business at all. They should be shutdown honestly”
