You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Losing my wife was one of the hardest moments of my life, and Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel showed our family true compassion every step of the way. From the very beginning, their staff was caring, patient, and moved with so much mercy and love. They treated us with dignity, respect, and genuine kindness during a time when we needed it the most. Every detail was handled with excellence, and they made sure our family felt comfortable, supported, and at peace throughout the entire process. My family and I were truly grateful for the effort, professionalism, and heartfelt care that was put into honoring my wife’s life. We felt loved, not just served. Thank you to the entire staff for your hard work, compassion, and for helping us through such a difficult season with grace”

“Unfortunately I have had to bury both of my parents and used Bellevue Memorial both times. They were so respectful and caring and very sensitive to our family needs. Mamie is amazing and the most incredible person to work with. She always greeted us with the kindest heart. The staff here is so accomodating. The services were beautiful! “Several years ago I wanted to obtain a flag for my brother in remembrance of our Dad’s military service. Dave at Bellevue Memorial was so kind and helpful in assisting me acquire the flag, that when it was time to do pre-planning for my Mom I gravitated toward Bellevue. I met with a few other establishments but was not won over. I was not looking for bells and whistles and was not impressed by high tech presentations nor national corporate affiliations. I was looking for a place who valued people and found it at Bellevue. The pre-planning was done spring 2025 in a couple sit- downs with their rep. Suggestions were offered when requested. My thoughts and ideas were listened to and regarded . My Mom passed in December. I found it so helpful to have provided most of necessary information in pre-planning. The remaining information needed and plans for the services were guided seamlessly from the time of her passing through and beyond the service, graveside, luncheon, and follow-up by the staff at Bellevue. Mamie and Jennifer were above all gracious and kind; and 2nd to none also expertly adept with the technology necessary to put this all together. Dave was available at all times. Because we are human :) we are not perfect! I believe an organization or company best testifies to its integrity by how it handles the occasional problem and how its people respond to and temper potential crises (in the midst of grief crises welcome themselves):). A couple very small (yet real) problems presented themselves. The pallbearers were not accurately identified in the service program and some of the flower cards were misplaced / lost. Mamie calmly and without hesitation offered to reprint programs for the family to keep (and really no one else cares) and the Officiant mentioned their names in the form of a thank you at the graveside: crisis averted! The flower cards were not found; but every effort was made by the staff to locate the cards and to apologize for the mishap. Because the family had looked at the flowers before the service, amongst us all we could recall from whom each bouquet had been sent. Perhaps the exact sentiment was not remembered, but thank you notes were able to be sent to each one who gave flowers: crisis averted! Bottom line: I highly recommend Bellevue Memorial Chapel as a place where people who carry integrity, compassion, kindness, and digital skills convey to the family and their guests in the midst of sorrow a welcome of safety and hospitality.”
