You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The new guy does crowd work and it is hilarious. PS, I am not catholic and only go when invited by people who are. Been visiting this church for fifteen years now, and it has always been very welcoming, comfortable and pleasant. This new priest from Columbia is absolutely solid gold. If he asks you to stand up if it is your first time attending, jump at the chance! His audience interaction is top quality. Oh, and hold a dollar back the first time they pass the hat. There is a second coming.”

“True congregation of community. The church's structure has been crafted beautifully, high ceilings and a few stained glass windows. It's quite easy to fall admist your own prayers and thoughts in the chapel behind the altar. My favorite part about Immaculate Conception is the choir on Sunday at 9:30a; these amazing and dedicated members bring out a fullfiling mass experience.”

“Probably the best Catholic Church in Durham. This parish is so lively and welcoming. It's a very large parish and is bilingual. Has multiple mass times and tends to have more families than other parishes. For reference we live in North Durham and travel in because we prefer Immaculate to our own home parish. Lots of ministries and a beautiful location.”
