You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“It's been a few weeks since my grandfather passed away and I've felt okay to share this. The funeral home in itself is beautiful, just a bit small. At one point through the services, our guests did not fit and many had to take turns coming in and out. That's not why I'm leaving a negative review though. There was a woman, with black hair and heavier frame that was very rude to us and very unprofessional during these times of grieving. I was not able to get her name, but she was present during the funeral services and she yelled at my mother for removing my grandfathers baseball hat after the funeral services were over. My mom only did it herself because she was no where to be seen and her coworker was already kicking everyone out of the funeral. We wanted to have our baseball cap back since it contains very heavy sentimental value. She did not need to speak to my mother that way. They also messed up on the cards that are passed out during the funeral. They stated that his death date were in August when in fact, they were in September. The only thing saving this place from a more negative review was that the people who picked up my grandfather's body after he passed away in hospice. They were so gentle with his body and showed nothing but respect to our grieving family. Do better.”

“We have nothing but great things to say about our experience with Perches. We loved being able to celebrate our grandpas life in privacy. Other funeral homes have multiple services going on at the same time. We felt accommodated and supported by the friendly staff during these sensitive times. Our family highly recommends this funeral home.”
