You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“DO NOT order flowers from the McElyea & Owen’s Funeral Group in Shawnee OK!!! First, I tried numerous times to call the funeral home and no one ever answered, only their after hours contact. These agents couldn’t answer my questions so I kept calling and I never spoke to a person associated with this funeral home. I’d hate to see anyone calling them due to their lack of interest after a loved one passes. Second, each time you click on their obituary order flowers link, it transfers to a different florist each time. My final purchase was with FTD contact Michael. He didn’t input my charge card correctly 3 times so I had to use another card. I specifically stated her celebration of life was at 10 am and he said they’ll be there at the church in time. He hung up before providing a final order number or total cost. 😡 So I call the same number and a Teleflora rep answered. Had to re-call a customer service number to reach FTD. Email receipt delivered and had 2 errors. Had wrong person on “Deliver to:” and I made the rep correct that error and emphatically said service is 10 am so make a note to deliver early. Flowers weren’t delivered at the church and I waited until 7 mins before 10 am service started. No arrival. FTD sends an email delivered to me during the service saying flowers are delivered. 🤦🏻♀️. So as we depart “several” bouquets are sitting on a table by the door. So my friend’s family never saw my beautiful arrangement. 😢 The reason I’m upset is because the flower cost was close to $170 ($23 delivery charge😱). So I have to warn anyone that this FTD company that the funeral home uses failed miserably. I was upset, left the church and failed to look at the card from the local florist shop that delivered them or I would have contacted them directly. So I’m posting to Google about this error since both companies have awful standards IMO. I’m will try to attach a picture as proof these flowers were not delivered as promised. Again, don’t deal with this FTD florist via the McElyea & Owen’s Funeral Group”

“Two years ago when my dad passed I would have given 5 stars. This year my mom passed and it has been a different story. Robert misspelled my mom's name on the paperwork, then corrected it in front of us. I assumed based on that her name on her obituary would be correct, but it wasn't. I sent an email and asked for it to be fixed, with no response. We picked out a large urn and 4 mini urns and he said someone would call when everything was ready for pickup. Three weeks went by and so I called. Robert said my mom was ready for pickup. I drove from Norman to Shawnee and when I got there he had a large urn and one small urn. I reminded him that we needed 4 small urns, so he said he would have to order them. He had no reason why no one had called me to tell me she was ready. He said they would order 3 more small urns and have someone deliver them when they were ready. While I was there I reminded him that her name was still not spelled correctly on the obituary. Fast forward 2 more weeks and I had not heard anything. So I called and she is ready, but he could not remember how many small urns or that he told me he would have them delivered. He did say the small urn we picked out was no longer available so picked something for us and he would have the large urn and 4 small urns delivered. Mom's name still had not been fixed, so I reminded him about that as well. Just received mom's ashes and we have 5 mini urns, I guess more is better than not enough? But the urns he picked out are not close to what we wanted and are not something my mom would like. At this point I guess I am just happy her name was fixed on the obituary and I finally have her home. I really like the aquamation but i am really disappointed in the service that was provided.”
