You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“This is such a lovely and peaceful place to go for a walk in the morning. It has beautiful trees and gorgeous scenery. If you’re looking for a place to take some photographs or to pay respects to people who have passed away, and I highly recommend this burial park - stunning views of Mt. Rainier. Blessings!”

“Beautiful Cemetery, I have a lot of family buried there. We do have to do some of the upkeep ourselves especially around the headstones especially. We take flowers up during the appropriate months and flags,. People think its the caretakers removing things from graves within a day or 2. It is not. There are some people who come and literally take things and sell them in their shops or at garage sales. Do not blame the caretakers please. 1 lady got busted for selling the flowers In her flower shop.”

“I don't even know where to begin to send my praises to these people. Especially, Mrs. PEGGY!!! My siblings and I just recently lost our mother unexpectedly and reached out to Hillcrest because this where our mom always asked to be buried. I read the reviews before hand but I took it with a grain of salt. My family met with Mrs. Peggy and she was absolutely amazing. Knowledgeable, empathetic, sympathetic, kind and honest. She worked with us to while we got all affairs in order. She sat and spent invaluable time with my family and most recently with just me and one of my sisters. The calmness she spoke into us, the glimmer of light she exuded. She is simply an amazing women. And we are so grateful. Thank you Hillcrest and an extra thank you to Mrs. Peggy. I hope you see this because you deserve your flowers.”
