You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“All I can say is how amazing this place is. They took such care of my papa, and us. I just wanted to give y’all a peek at what they did for us. Alan, being the caring individual he is, made sure we were not left out of the steps taken to make sure my papa had the funeral he deserved. From the pillows with our names on it. To The beautiful flowers that complimented the American flag. I wish I could give them 10 stars.”

“Extremely difficult to communicate with. Won't answer our questions and update our file because we bought 2 Plots back in 2008 and now want to be both placed in the same plot by our mom and our ashes buried. They talked us into buying a different plot un the next row but we want the deeds updated to the Plots we wanted originally by our family. The manager sent an email asking for more money ( a few thousands) for items we were not given the choice for. Pushing for both a vault and another container when one only is required. Refuses to tell us if the cameos will definitely fit on the memorials ( as she suggested she would) unless we buy them first. Her bill was sent in an email, very unprofessional and incompationate. Definitely greedy. She claimed she had no list. Total lack of transparency. We are very old and my husband is very ill and she knows it. She still chooses to hurt us in our last wishes, hoping that we die before the changes have been recorded to get more out of us and charge more. Please buy somewhere else and live in peace like you should”

“My experience with Thomas Yelverton Funeral Home was exceptional from start to finish. Chuck Jones was very professional and made the planning process very easy during a difficult time. Moreover, the rest of his staff were equally professional, kind and confident in their positions. I would highly recommend anyone use this funeral home service. In my opinion, Chuck went above and beyond to ensure our mother received a very nice burial service. Many thanks to Chuck and all of those involved with our mother’s service.”
