You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I cannot say enough about A Good Shepherd’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services. From the very first moment of picking my mom up from the hospital and to the final moment at the gravesite, the care, compassion, and professionalism shown to my family was truly exceptional. The funeral director, Ms. Leger, was gentle, patient, and caring every step of the way. She handled our family with grace during one of the most difficult times of our lives. Jerry Ward, the general manager, was prompt, professional, and executed my vision for my mother’s service perfectly down to every last detail. I want to acknowledge everyone involved: the young lady who lovingly prepared my mother, the front desk receptionist, the ushers at the wake, and the limo drivers. Every single person we encountered showed respect, kindness, and excellence. The entire team was a breath of fresh air during a heartbreaking season. It was deeply reassuring to be surrounded by so much grace at the funeral home. If you are ever faced with the need to lay a loved one to rest, I wholeheartedly recommend A Good Shepherd’s Funeral Home. They truly live up to their name. 🤍🕊️”

“There truly aren’t enough words to express the care, compassion, and professionalism shown by A Good Shepherds Funeral Home. My first contact was with Victoria when my stepfather was placed on hospice. Our main concern was making sure my mother wouldn’t have to carry the weight of planning when the time came. From the very beginning, Victoria went above and beyond checking in on my dad and my mom regularly, offering encouragement, and sharing stories that brought comfort and hope during a very uncertain time. When my dad passed about three months later, the care we received exceeded anything I could have imagined. My mom shared with Mr. Sheppard that she wanted my dad sent out of state, and he immediately took on that responsibility, staying in constant communication with the receiving funeral home on our behalf. Working with two funeral homes at the same time made the difference in professionalism and genuine care from A Good Shepherds unmistakable. I asked that A Good Shepherds handle everything so the other funeral home would only need to conduct the service and they did exactly that. The attention to detail was remarkable. It was almost as if they made my dad look younger. Our family will be forever grateful for the dignity, respect, and love shown throughout this process. While I thank everyone at A Good Shepherds, I want to offer a special and heartfelt thank you to Erica. She stepped in after the services were complete, and her compassion left a lasting impression on my heart one I will never forget.”

“A Good Shepherd’s Funeral Home provided us with the utmost care and professionalism during the loss of our loved one. I was able to plan a funeral while living outside the country thanks to the concierge services of Mrs. Shepherd. She texted me every step of the way and communication was readily accessible. She even went shopping for all of the items our loved one needed (outfit, glasses, wig). One of my favorite perks from them was the musical selection they ministered at the funeral, which took everyone straight to church. Highly recommend for the attention, dignity, and compassion shown during our difficult season.”
